ELKHART — Sergio "Kako" Rocha, 52, of Elkhart, was found passed away at his home at 8:50 a.m. Oct. 3, following a sudden illness.
He was born in McAllen, Texas, on June 9, 1964, to the late Celestino and Augustina (Lara) Rocha, and later married Deanna L. Gibson on Sept. 29, 1986, in Ohio.
She survives him at home.
Also surviving are his children, Sergio Jr., Adrian, Alisha and Daniel (Danielle) Rocha, all of Elkhart; brothers Rolando, Rene and Roel Rocha of McAllen and Margarito (Mary) Rocha of Houston, Texas; sisters Linda (Geraldo) Garcia, Lupe (Larry) Watson and Norma Gunts, all of Elkhart and Becky (Peter) Muniz and Rosie Rocha, both of McAllen; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four siblings.
A mass will be celebrated for Sergio at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart, with visitation beginning in St. Vincent Hall at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Matthew Coonan will officiate and, in accordance with the family's wishes, cremation will follow the services.
A master carpenter and builder, Sergio had worked for a family owned and operated construction company for many years and had considered his co-workers there as part of his own family.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and was an avid Notre Dame, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan.
Memorial donations may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) at 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004, and a special thanks to Manuel Barajas and Sergio's co-workers for their strength and support during this tender time.
