ELKHART -- Sendney Lee Mason, 95, of 1001 W. Hively Ave., formerly of 2601 Oakland Ave., died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 14, 2008) in Golden Living Center.

She was born April 29, 1913, in Drew, Miss., to Sherman and Lou Sendney Williams. In 1929, she married Tim Mason in Crothersville, Mo. He died in January of 1987, in Elkhart.

Mrs. Mason is survived by five daughters, Mary Kelleybrew of Hayti, Mo., Arlean (Carl) Jones of Detroit, Mich., and Dorothy Wilson, Lois Harper and Grace (Johnny) Stewart, all of Elkhart; one son, Tim Doyle Mason of Elkhart; a nephew she raised as a son, Carl Harris; two grandchildren she raised as her own, Brenda Norwood and Thomas J. Mason; 34 grandchildren; 98 great-grandchildren; 52 great-great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian Mason; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Williams; and two sisters, Cora Harris and Arlene Newman.

Mrs. Mason was a homemaker and well known for raising many other children besides her own. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church for over 52 years and served as an usher and member of the Mother's Board at the church.

She was a volunteer for many years, and earned a commendation for her work, at Rosewood Terrace Nursing Home (now Golden Living Center). Mrs. Mason was a member of OES.

Friends may call one hour prior to Friday's noon funeral service at Community Missionary Baptist Church, Elkhart. Pastor Lafate Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
