February 13, 1927 – July 2, 2020
ELKHART: Sanita M. "Sandy" (Wynykoski) Richardson, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, surrounded by love and family at Elkhart General Hospital. A lifetime resident of Elkhart, she was born into a large and loving family on February 13, 1927 to Julius and Terasina "Theresa" Campanello.
In 1948 she married her sweetheart Daniel Wynykoski in Elkhart who preceded her in death December 1995. In July of 1999 Sandy married Robert E. Richardson who also preceded her in death in July 2017.
In addition to her parents, and husbands, she was preceded in death by seven sisters, Mary Campanella, Yolanda (Vi) Campanella, Clara Eby, Elizabeth Montagano, Juliette Ronzone, Antoinette Spencer, Anna Campanello, and a brother Gregory Campanello. Sandy leaves behind a beautiful and loving blended family, a daughter Gail (David) Duthie, son John (Rosann) Wynykoski, six step-children, Leslie (Bill) Simpson, Mark (Sally) Richardson. Matt (Susan) Richardson, Stephan (Theresa) Swihart, Mary Susan "Suzie" Swihart and Jane "Jes" (John) Hagale; 3 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren.
Sandy was a 1944 graduate of Elkhart High School. After raising her children, she was active in community affairs. She retired from the United Way of Elkhart County in 1984, having served as its vice president. In 1984 she also served as the United Way interim president.
Sandy also served as a board member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Life Recovery, Elkhart General Hospital auxiliary, St. Vincent de Paul Church, Lifeline, and was a member of the Elkhart Art League, and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was a former Girl Scout Leader. While enjoying and wintering in Stuart, Florida, she was a volunteer with the Hospice Thrift Shop.
A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated and she will be laid to rest in the Faith mausoleum at Rice Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. The family kindly requests memorial donations to either St. Thomas or St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church.
