VENICE, Fla. — Sandra A. "Sandy" Sherven, 75, of Venice and also of Elkhart, Ind., passed away at 8:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Tidewell Hospice/Venice Hospice House in Venice following an extended illness.
She was born March 3, 1940, in Muskegon, Mich., to the late Charles and Rosemary (Harvey) Jensen.
She later married Gordon L. Sherven on Nov. 17, 2007, in Elkhart. He survives her at home.
Also surviving are her daughters, Joyce (fiancé James Maggart) Long of Venice, Julie (Allen) Boggs of Elkhart and Donna (Mike) Long of Bristol, Ind.; stepdaughter Marilyn (Brian) VanHarlingen of Torrence, Calif.; stepson Gordon L. Jr. (Tami) Sherven of Elkhart; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-stepgrandson.
Preceding her in death were her former spouse, David Ray, and sisters Margaret Schaner, Lena Horne and Gladys Panis.
A celebration of Sandy's life will begin at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where a visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. Services for Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 3300 Benham Ave., Elkhart, with visitation beginning an hour prior. The Rev. Steve Reshan will officiate. Burial will follow services in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
Sandy worked many years as a cashier at local CVS and Martin's Super Markets. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. She was a former member of American Legion Auxiliary, the Goshen, Ind., chapter of Women of the Moose and DAV 19 Auxiliary.
In addition to spending time with family, Sandy enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino and NASCAR. She was an avid Notre Dame fan. She treasured her husband, three daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
