She was born June 26, 1941, in Kosciusko County to Howard and Gladys J. (Girten) Hill. On Jan. 12, 2003, she married Herbert D. "Dalton" Palmer. He died in 2004.
She is survived by three sons, Bryan E. Heath, Terry A. (Glenda) Heath and Tracy J. (Tina) Heath, all of Elkhart; one daughter, Melissa "Bunnie" of Palm Bay, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wm. A. "Bill" (Kathy) Vollstedt of Elkhart, and Kevin J. Vollstedt and Keith J. Vollstedt, both of Edwardsburg; and two sisters, Penny L. Vollstedt of Bristol and Hazel D. of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Elkhart Moose Lodge 599, where a luncheon will follow the services. Pastor Paul Stauffer of Nappanee Church of the Brethren will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker, but also had a Truth motor carrier's route for several years. She was a former member of Moose Lodge 599 and enjoyed animals and fishing at Miller Lake in Marcellus, Mich. She also was known for her cooking, with fried chicken and potato salad among her most requested dishes.
Mrs. Palmer enjoyed helping others whenever she could and had a very active sense of humor.
