IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sally Jo
(Kline) Borem
April 27, 1951 – January 2, 2025
Ms. Sally Jo Borem, 73, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 10:19 a.m., surrounded by love at her daughter's home after a courageous battle with an extended illness. Born on April 27, 1951, in Elkhart, Sally was the cherished daughter of the late Jack and Wava (Miller) Kline. She is now reunited in heaven with the love of her life, Robert Wayne Borem, her husband of 44 wonderful years, along with her brother, Michael Kline, and sister, Sue Glanders.
Sally leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through her children, Traci L. (David) Walker of Elkhart and Joseph M. Borem of Indianapolis, as well as her adored grandchildren, Dustin Ellsworth and Mason and Brayden Walker. She also leaves behind her loyal chihuahua companion, Cinnamon, who is undoubtedly missing her snuggles and likely demanding extra treats in her absence. Sally's memory will continue to brighten the hearts of her extended family, friends, neighbors, and anyone lucky enough to know her.
The family will celebrate Sally's life with a memorial gathering at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 405 W. Beardsley Ave., Elkhart, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart.
Sally was a homemaker extraordinaire with a green thumb and a zest for life that was both inspiring and entertaining. She took pride in her home, yard, and garden, often coaxing flowers to bloom brighter and plants to grow taller as if they, too, couldn't resist her charm. Her love for the outdoors began as a child, where she spent countless hours playing with her siblings and enjoying time with her beloved grandparents, who endeared her to horses by gifting her a pony—a dream come true that sparked a lifelong affection for all things equine.
As Sally grew older, she discovered a passion for travel, books, and, of course, boys. One boy in particular, Bob, stole her heart forever. Legend has it they met while cruising the strip, and from that moment on, they were inseparable. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, fueled by Bob's love for cars and racing. Whether she was cheering him on at Indy racing events or keeping an impressive mental catalog of every celebrity they encountered—from Donald Trump to Paul Newman, Grizzly Adams, and nearly every big name in the Indy circuit—Sally embraced life with enthusiasm and humor. Her children fondly recall her babysitting Graham Rahal, now a renowned Indy racer himself, further cementing Sally's connection to the racing world.
Sally's heart was as big as her love for adventure. She had a deep respect for all living things and was a woman of faith who lived her Christian values every day. Her kindness, humor, and unshakable devotion to family and friends will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Sally, knowing your legacy of love and laughter will continue to brighten the lives of all who knew you—and that Cinnamon is being thoroughly spoiled in your honor.
