Mrs. Sally A. Earnhart, 87, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022 at 5:38 am in the comfort of her own home with her family at her side. She was born in Elkhart on Sept. 08, 1935 to the late Lester and Katie (Lantz) Kidder. On July 28, 1958, she married her lifelong sweetheart Lawrence I. "Larry" Earnhart in Elkhart, where he survives after over 70 years together.
Also surviving is a son, Scott (Jennifer) Earnhart; daughters Lorna (LeRoy) Miller and Leigh (Steve Schatz) Cornish; sister Eleanor (Ed) Olinger and sister-in-law Sue (Bob) Griep; grandchildren Brandon Hamlin, Kimberly Smith, Elisha High, Amanda Paxton, Krista Gritzmaker, Kelsey Payne, Andy Cornish and Kristen Rajski, and 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dale Cornish and a sister, Pat Wolfinger.
Services for Sally will be held at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 12:00 noon, with visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Rick Pirtle will officiate and burial will follow at the Wolf Lake Cemetery near Warsaw.
Sally was a 1953 graduate of Elkhart High School and worked at G.L. DeFord and Gemeinhardt. Her sweetest memory was when she and Larry met while working at McClennan's Five and Dime Store in Elkhart when they were 16. She always laughed when Larry would claim that he "found his million dollar baby in a five and dime store." She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend; and her face always lit up when she was with those she loved.
Although Sally loved to travel and had an adventurous spirit, she will be best remembered curled up in a chair watching a Western with her beloved Molly the dog on her lap.
Please visit the funeral home's website to leave condolences and memories. Also, a special thanks to Southern Care Hospice.
