ELKHART — Ruth V. Jackson, 67, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend.
She was born Aug. 12, 1945, in McAllen, Texas, to Prospero and Aurora (Vanda) Varela.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Lee Jackson of Elkhart; five sons, Johnny Trinidad Jr. of Elkhart, Domingo Bautista Jr. of Little Field, Texas, Adam (Chrystal) Bautista of Corpus Christi, Texas, Christopher Bautista of Key West, Fla., and Samuel Z. Jackson Jr. of Elkhart; four daughters, Elizabeth Trinidad, Anita Bautista and Evening (Jose) Sanchez, all of Elkhart, and Samantha Trinidad of South Bend; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings.
In addition to being a loving homemaker, Ruth worked as a translator for the Elkhart County Courts and was employed with AmeriCorps.
She was a member and past president of Minority Health Coalition, a Hispanic Coalition Board member and member of SGI-USA for more than 40 years.
Ruth loved to spend time reading, listening to music, dancing, spending time with her family and helping others.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, memorial service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Karl Smith will officiate.
