Ruth Ann Dennis, 86, of Elkhart, passed away with her son and grandson by her side on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Ruth was born on September 3, 1940 in Elkhart, IN to the late, Francis “Fritz” Frederick Wirt and Margaret Christine (Hedrick) Wirt. She married the love of her life, Cortland “Cork” Lee Dennis on December 14, 1963 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He passed away on May 25, 2026.

She is also preceded in death by her son Russell Dodd whom passed away in December of 2021.

Ruth is survived by her recently adopted son, “Mr. Bibbs” the cat, son, Ronald Dodd Jr., of Elkhart; grandchildren, Andrew “Bugbiter” (Jennifer); Michael, Erica and Kerrisa; great grandchildren, Collin and Darich and many cousins; daughter-in-law, Teresa; nieces and nephews.

Ruth lived a life defined by devotion, faith, and a deep love for her family and community. A caregiver for most of her adult life, she dedicated herself to looking after the people of Elkhart, always striving to leave the world a better place through her profound compassion and kindness.

Ruth loved God deeply and lived a beautifully Christ-centered life. In her spare time, she was an avid gardener, enjoyed coloring, and loved working on fill-in puzzles. She was also a passionate crocheter, generously donating many of her handmade creations to the infants at Memorial Hospital.

Above all else, family was everything to Ruth. She cherished their time together, especially during family dinners—which were made even better whenever Chinese food was involved. Her legacy of dedication and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those she loved.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and a special thanks to the team at Luminary Hospice, with a very special mention to Nurse Abby for her exceptional care and support.

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Jonathon Rose officiating. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Cork at a later date.

The family would like to request everyone wear her favorite purple or blue outfit in Ruth’s honor.
