Russell "Russ" Edward Johnson, 76, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at his home.

Russ was born in Elkhart, IN to the late, Jack and Hope (Raeder) Johnson on December 16, 1944. He was married to the late, Darleen (McDonald) Johnson on March 24, 2001.

Russ is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene on April 3, 201 and two sisters, Linda Paulson and Sandra Straw.

Survivors of Russ are his son, Kirk Johnson (Kelly McCraner) of Elkhart and daughter, Joanna Johnson of Illinois; and stepsons, Scott McDonald and Sam (Amy) McDonald.

Russ is a lifelong resident of Elkhart, graduating from Elkhart High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy as an electrical inspector during the Vietnam War. Russ was a member of the D.A.V. 19 in Elkhart. He protected and served his community as an Elkhart City Police officer for 22 years, retiring in 1989. In his early years, Russ was an outdoorsman whom enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Russ will be remembered as a caring dad.

Per Russ's wishes, there will be no services and he will be cremated. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the family.
