MILFORD -- Ruby Jean Brown, 84, of Milford, formerly of Elkhart, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 24, 2008) in Lakeland Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Elkhart to Ira and Mabel (Memitz) Shanholt. On Jan. 16, 1943, she married Clyde V. Brown in Elkhart. He died May 2, 1990, in Elkhart.

Mrs. Brown is survived by two sons, Larry (Sharon) Brown and Clyde (Elizabeth) Brown, both of Elkhart; one daughter, Linda (Ray) Freshour of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

One sister, Harriett Atkinson, and four brothers, George, Raymond, Ira and Jack Shanholt, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker, enjoyed traveling to visit family, had a soft spot for animals and was quite a dancer.

Friends may call two hours prior to Tuesday's 1 p.m. funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Dave Troxel of Mishawaka Grace Brethren Church will officiate.
