ELKHART -- Ruben E. Moreno Sr., 78, of Elkhart, died at 2:06 p.m. Friday (Feb. 19, 2010) at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Aug. 23, 1931, in McAllen, Texas, to Adolfo Moreno and Josesfa (Martinez) Moreno.

He is survived by three daughters, Leticia (David) Shoufler of Elkhart, Thelma (Richard) Taflinger of Danville, Ill., and Blanca E. Robledo of Elgin, Ill.; two sons, Jaime Moreno of Aurora, Ill. and Ruben E. (Kelly) Moreno Jr. of Elkhart; four brothers, Fito, Rogelio, Pedro and Alfredo Moreno; one sister, Olivia Vela; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Santiago and Raul Moreno; and two sisters, Frances Lartegue and Jesuasa Ortega.

Mr. Moreno was a self-employed office equipment repairman for several years in Texas, Illinois and Indiana. He loved to garden, travel and spend time with his family. He was known for being a caring person who helped others who were less fortunate.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Shannon Bishop of Elkhart Church of God will officiate.
