ELKHART — Mr. Roy B. "Bryan" Crafford, 90, of Elkhart, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart.
He was born in Cotton Plant, Ark., on July 21, 1922, to the late John and Daisy (Gillum) Crafford.
He married Mildred E. Allen in Peoria, Ariz., April 28, 1945. She survives in Elkhart.
Also surviving are his daughters, Connie (Tex) Schlabaugh, Patricia Crafford and Donna (David) Johnson, all of Elkhart; grandsons Christopher (Lisa) Schlabaugh of Chandler, Ariz., and Jonathan (Marcie) Schlabaugh of Elkhart; and great-grandchildren Tyler, Nick, Marissa, Carson, Garrett and Kami Schlabaugh, and Byron Mosley.
He was preceded in death by brothers Lowell, Pete, Lewis and Bailey Crafford and sisters Earle Massey, Irene Wade and Beatrice Glenn.
Visitation will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
Bryan worked as the meter man for the city of Elkhart's traffic division for many years, retiring in 1979. Although he did not serve in the military during World War II, Bryan contributed to the war effort by working on aircraft parts as a civilian contractor. He was also an avid gardener.
