ELKHART — Rosie Mae Palmer, 88, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully after an extended illness at Golden Living Center in Elkhart at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013.

She was born in Tupelo, Miss., on April 4, 1925, to the late Thomas and Susan (Avan) Palmer.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Deloris Peoples (Alfred Lee) of Elkhart and Stella (Alfred) Mitchell and Louise (Charles Jr.) Frazier, both of Blythesville, Ark.; brothers Glen (Joyce) Palmer and James "June" Palmer Jr., both of Memphis, Tenn.; sister Christine Kaufman of Memphis; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Rosie in death was a son, Jim Davis; grandson, Marvin Frazier; and granddaughters Doris Conyers and Donna Andrew.

Friends and family may gather for one hour prior to Rosie's home-going celebration, which will be at noon Saturday, July 20, at Church Without Walls, 731 Wagner St., Elkhart. Pastor Jonathan Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart.

Rosie was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family and entertaining all of the neighborhood children. Prior to moving to Elkhart from Blythesville, she ran a "Freeze-Cup" frozen treat stand.

A devout Christian lady, Rosie accepted the Lord as her personal savior in the early 1980s under the tutelage of Superintendent David Corns of Nehemiah Temple Church of God in Christ in Blythesville.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be given to the Church Without Walls. Online condolences can reach the family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
