ELKHART — Rosie Lee Lewis, 78, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Oct.14, 1933, in Magnolia, Ark., to Jonah and Eula Cooper.
Survivors include four daughters, Mattie Wilson, Eula (Thomas) Moore, Anna (Michael) Williams and Lisa Lewis, all of Elkhart; four sons, Michael, Charles, Jerry and Erich Lewis, all of Elkhart; six sisters, Mattie Wyrick, Christine Salsbury, Eula Faye McDaniel and Licille Jenkens, all of Magnolia, Fannie Barhams of Osceola and Virginia Tubbs of Tucson, Ariz.; five brothers, Joner B. Cooper of Elkhart, Henry Lee Cooper of Magnolia, John P. Cooper of Stamps, Ark., Richard Cooper of San Antonio, Texas and Gary Jones-Cooper of Antioch, Calif.; three special grandsons, Marshall Lewis, Dorsey Brown and Delvon Shoun; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Lewis; six brothers, Terry Cooper, Danny Ray Cooper, Jonah Cooper Jr., Larry Jones-Cooper, Donny Ray Cooper and John L. Jones- Cooper; sister, Florence Cooper; two sons, Luther Lewis and Joseph Lewis; and daughter Annie Lewis.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the noon homegoing service celebration Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 1829 Oakland Avenue, Elkhart. Pastor Nicholas Cossey will officiate.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street, Elkhart, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
