IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Rosetta

Dye

April 9, 1959 – July 12, 2024

Obituary

Rosetta Dye, 65, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully in the familiar and comfortable confines of her own home on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 9:41 am following an apparent cardiac episode. She was born in Gary on April 9, 1959 to the late John and Mary Jo (Lewis) Dye and, along with them, is preceded in death by a sister, Jonetta Dye.

Surviving Rosetta is her son Delbert A. (Jennifer M.) Dye of Elkhart; brothers John T. "Junebug" Dye, Jr. of South Bend and Thomas Sanders Lewis of Elkhart; her sister Denice Dye of Elkhart, grandchildren Paris Dye, Emily Studt, Nicholas Reed, grand-dog Chelsea the Shih-Tzu and a loving host of extended family and friends including nephews Maurice and Anthony Dye and Stephan Dixon.

Rosetta's life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the AGAPE Missionary Baptist Church, 218 West Wolf Street, Elkhart at 12:00 noon. Public visitation and viewing will be held there just one hour prior at 11 am. The Reverend Dr. Dannell Brown, pastor, will officiate the service.

Rosetta worked for about a decade at Elkhart Brass until an injury required her early retirement. Although her mobility was impaired a little bit, that never slowed down Rosetta as she loved to simply drive around, peruse through all of her local Dollar General stores, and visit her son Delbert (at least 3 or 4 times a week, pull up call and blow the horn (beep! beep!)  and everybody in the house would say  "your MOM is here!!"  LOL!).

She was an excellent cook, churning out delicious and oft-requested staples such as pan-fried chicken, liver and onions, greens and cooked cabbage. Her son also added that she could whip up a tomato sauce that paired with just about everything. All agreed that cooking was Rosetta's most effective way to show her love! She also loved to decorate inside and outside her house, especially on holidays.

Rosetta tried to live life to the fullest, and her grands simply doted over her, calling her "Paw-Maw" because she was a combination of both a Pa-Paw and a Ma-maw. So, Paw-Maw. Rosetta was also very church oriented and regularly attended services in her home via live video feed, since she had mobility issues. She dearly embraced her Lord's word and strived to live her life worthy of His commandments.

Finally, we would be remiss if we forgot to mention that Rosetta was a "die-hard" and enthusiastic fan of basketball of all types, football and track and field just to name a few, and she was getting excited that the Olympics were right around the corner. She also loved watching and playing Jeopardy and was considered a "grand master" when it came to answering questions.

World's greatest moms for $500, Alex……. "Born in 1959 in Gary, this lady raised a beautiful family and later was blessed with three "roses" of wonderful grandchildren"…..…umm..…Who is Rosetta Dye???   "That's correct!"
