IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald G.
"Ron" Pletcher
January 6, 1966 – March 14, 2021
Mr. Ronald G. "Ron" Pletcher, 55, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 12:50 am following some health issues. Ron was born in Elkhart on January 6, 1966 to Richard (Sharli) Pletcher of Elkhart and the late Eunice (Green) Pletcher Hillman. On June 17, 2006 Ron married Denise Renee Hanner in Elkhart. She survives at home after 14 wonderful years together.
Also surviving are his sons Stephen Pletcher of Three Rivers, Michigan and Seth (Kendra) Hanner of Alberta, Canada; daughters Kristyn (Levi) Rogers and Taylor (Jeff Slocum) Hanner, both of Elkhart and Amanda (Mason) Mitchell of Edwardsburg, Michigan; sisters Debbie Pletcher of Niles, Michigan and Dawn (Dan) Sumption; grandchildren Carter and Caiden Pletcher, Asin Rogers, Mayvis Hanner and Mason Mitchell (and one "on the way"); mother-in-law Pat Hanner; his three "brothers from another mother" Mark Wiskotoni, Chris Neace and Cedrick Clark; his beloved Boston Terrier "Jause" and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and emergency services personnel who also called him "brother". Preceding him in death is his father-in-law Thomas Hanner and grandparents Glen and Alice Pletcher and Jack and Marjorie Green.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart is hosting Ron's homegoing celebration on Thursday, March 18, 2021 with a visitation and viewing being held there from 4 pm until 6 pm followed by a service at 6 pm. Billings Chaplain Jeremy Sarber will officiate and Firefighter and Emergency Services Honors will be rendered at the funeral home immediately following the services there. In accordance with Ron's wishes, cremation will then take place with a burial at Little Pine Cemetery being held at a later date.
Ron served honorably as a firefighter with the Cleveland Township Fire Department for 16 years and also as an Emergency Services Personnel for the Elkhart County Emergency Support Services, a division of Elkhart County Emergency Management. Rain, shine, sleet or snow, Ron could always be found amid a cluster of flashing emergency lights. As in true first responder form, Ron's altruistic personality led him to the service of others, a labor of love that he took personally for nearly two decades. Ron seemed at home not only on the fire scene, but during weather or man-made disasters, or even doing traffic control during big games. (his ESS buddies said basketball games were his favorite!)
At home, Ron loved spending time with his lovely Denise, his kids and his grandkids. He has always been a devoted husband and father and would often lend a hand with the kids' softball and baseball leagues, either as an umpire or as a "bleacher" coach! He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and it showed in how he treated them.
Caring, loving, generous and always "laid-back", Ron lived life to the fullest and cherished each day. He had a sense of humor that would always light up a room and if you needed help with something, you could always count Ron in to lend a hand. He was also an avid reader and history scholar as well as being a huge fan of the University of Michigan Wolverines, CNN News and NASCAR.
Memorial donations made in Ron's memory may be given to the charity of one's choice.
