September 21, 1953 – March 1, 2026
Roger D. Shuff, Jr., 72, of Elkhart, passed away after a brave 15-year fight with prostate Cancer on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at his home.
Roger was born in San Diego, CA to the late, Mr. & Mrs. Roger Duane Shuff, Sr.
He married the love of his life Sandra “Sandi” (Fink) Shuff on May 11, 1974.
Roger is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents; Roger Shuff, Sr. and mother, Mary Ann (Lewis) Shuff; brothers-in-law, Robert Price and Joseph Emerson and nephew, Robi Price.
Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandi Shuff of Elkhart; sons, Ryan (Jessi) Shuff of Middlebury, IN and Matthew Shuff of Philadelphia, PA; adored grandchildren, Kaylin, Kendal, and Reid; his siblings, Jack (Joann) Shuff of Bay St. Louis, MS; Terry (Angie) Shuff of Blackshear, GA; Greg Shuff of Elkhart, IN; Linda (Larry) Byres of Momence, IL, Carla Forgey of Elkhart, IN; Connie (Pat) Davis of Ellabelle, GA; and Michelle (Fred) Barclay of Racine, WI and many nieces and nephews, and his beloved Golden Doodle, Honeybear, which he called his puppy baby dog.
When Roger was 2 years old, the family moved to Bourbonnais, IL. He was 10 years old when his family started their lives in Elkhart, IN. Roger graduated from Elkhart High School in 1972.
Roger was always in his garage working on a wide variety of projects, and he could fix almost anything. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing and golfing on occasion. Let us not forget that Roger was the biggest Chicago Bears fan there ever was!
Roger was a respected advocate for worker rights and worked as a field investigator with Harrington law firms since 2001. He worked as brakeman at Penn Central and Conrail (Norfolk Southern) early in his career and Roger quickly rose the ranks of the United Transportation Union (now SMART-TD) serving several terms as Local Chairman for UTU Local 194 in Elkhart, Indiana.
Roger loved his family immensely and his grandchildren were at the center of his universe. From sleepovers, plays and sports activities, Roger loved their company.
He was humble, soft spoken yet compassionate and a generous man. Rog will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
Rest easy Rog, we love you!
