MISHAWAKA — Roger Alan Purdie, 43, residing in Mishawaka and formerly of Elkhart, passed away from a sudden heart attack Saturday, July 5, 2013.
Roger was born Jan. 6, 1970, in Elkhart to Roger A. West and LaVon Purdie.
Surviving are his son, Mason Blaze Purdie and fiancée Laura Warner of Mishawaka; mother LaVon Purdie of Elkhart; father Roger A. West of Elkhart; sister Janna L. (Brian) Balsley; Roger's nephews, Brock and Gavin of Cape Coral, Fla.; and his grandmother, Margaret F. Purdie of Elkhart.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, John and Audrey Butts and Robert H. "Bob" Purdie.
Roger was on the car sales team at Mike Anderson Super Center in Elkhart. He was a 1988 graduate of Jimtown High School, where he played on the football team. He also played Little League baseball. He attended Southwestern Michigan College. Roger loved all genres of music, especially '80's rock, and was an accomplished musician, playing guitar, piano and writing music.
Please join with his family and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, requiem Mass to be celebrated at St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 W. Lexington Ave., Elkhart. Father Daniel Repp will officiate. Roger's wishes of cremation will be honored. Placement in the St. John's Church Columbarium will be private.
