Obituary

CONSTANTINE, Mich. — Roger M. Parmelee, 74, of Constantine, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side Thursday, June 30, following an extended illness.

He was born April 22, 1942, in Chicago, to the late Samuel and Florence (Pronz) Parmelee.

He married Bertha M. "Bert" (Good) Conley on Oct. 1, 2004, in Elkhart. She survives him at their home in Constantine.

Also surviving are his sons, Tom (Dawn) Vaughn of Morris, Ill., Clyde Young of South Bend, Timothy (Linda) Vaughn of Fort Wayne and John Christner of Edwardsburg; daughters Barbara (Jeff) Englar of Flowery Branch, Ga., Theresa Hackett of Lemont, Ill., Sheila (Gary) Russ of Howe, Ind., Cheryl (David) Knepple of Vandalia, Karen (Richard) Putman of New Lenox, Ill. and Julie (Malcolm) Hooker of Constantine; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Parmelee and a sister, Joyce Laske.

Roger served honorably in the U. S. Army in Vietnam, but once home he supplied the "lifeblood" of America as a local and over-the-road truck driver for more than 40 years. When he wasn't hauling, he could be found relaxing to a good game of golf on TV or rooting for his Chicago Cubbies or Blackhawks. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Although Roger requested to be cremated, a gathering of family and friends will be at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart on from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7, to celebrate his memory. Burial with military honors will take place in Chamberlain Cemetery in Lawton at a later date.

Condolences may reach the family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
