Obituary

Mr. Roger Dale Cooper, 63, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Doctor's Neurological Hospital in Bremen on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 11:00 pm, following an illness. He was born in South Bend on October 9, 1958 to the late Raymond J. and Audrey M. (Boren) Cooper, and later married Kimberly S. Rock in Elkhart in 1979. She passed away in 2019 after 40 years at Roger's side.

Surviving Roger is his son, Jeremy J. (Angie Pletcher) Cooper of Elkhart; his daughter Jamie (Kurt) Miller of Constantine, Michigan; brother Freeman E. Cooper of Middlebury and grandchildren Heaven and Izabella Coffman, Sydnee and Haylee Miller and Madisson Pletcher. He is also survived by a host of loving extended family, friends and acquaintances. A sister, Theresa Sweeney, precedes Roger in death.

Roger's family is wishing to have just a time of sharing and stories where friends and family can gather on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 4-6 pm at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. No formal services have been scheduled at this time, and cremation will follow Roger's viewing.

Roger was professional industrial bender operator and worked for several different manufacturing companies over the span of about 40 years. He worked very hard throughout his life, with most weeks averaging 6 day work weeks. Undaunted, Roger knew what was best for his family and he had no desire to do anything less than his very best.

For being a person who always seemed to be busy, though, folks would say that Roger was pretty laid back as well. He was smart enough to know not to let the little things in life eat him up, and he instead found peace in things like his children, his grandchildren and his extended family.

Roger was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and had become a disciple of Christ during his life's journey, so "counting his blessings" became a favorite pastime. He also liked to spend time with his Papillion Bentley and considered him one of those "blessings". Unfortunately, but understandably, Roger never considered the San Francisco 49ers a blessing.

Friends and family wishing to make a monetary donation in Roger's memory may do so by sending your contribution to either his family (in care of Jeremy) or to the American Alzheimer's Association. Additionally, please be sure to thoroughly browse Roger's obit page, as you are able to leave condolences and memories, post photographs on his memory wall, and order other funerary items in regard to the family.
