ELKHART — Roger E. Beheyt, 70, of Elkhart, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born May 11, 1941, in Ghent, Belgium, to Franciscus L. and Henriette M. (Verschraegen) Beheyt. He later married Peggy J. (O'Neil) Routson on Nov. 25, 2000, in Elkhart. She survives at home.

Also surviving are a daughter, Sonya (Don) Smith, and a son, Rodney (Liz Strahla) Beheyt, both of Mishawaka; a stepdaughter, Kim (Jay) Ott of Friday Harbor, Wash.; three stepsons, Jeff (Birdget) Searer of Cloverdale, Ohio, Tim (Kristen) Routson and Shawn (Paula) Routson, both of Elkhart; a half brother, Ron (Nicole) Beheyt of Granger; his mother, Henriette M. Roets of Elkhart; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Preceding Roger in death are his father and his stepfather, Albert G. Roets.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 21, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart, where a funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. Pastor Stan Hoover of Light of Life Church in Elkhart will officiate. In accordance to his wishes, Roger will be cremated after the services.

Roger worked at Dodge Manufacturing in Mishawaka for more than 21 years, then spent another 20 years driving over the road for Roadway Trucking Company out of the Chicago terminal, retiring in 2004. Also a Harley Davidson enthusiast, Roger belonged to H.O.G., ABATE, the Belgium (BK) Klub and Elkhart Moose Lodge 599.

Memorial donations may be made to the United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
