Obituary
ELKHART — Rodney H. VerVelde, 78, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Elkhart.
He was born March 21, 1935, in Sheboygan, Wis., to Harry and Mary (Wondergem) VerVelde.
Survivors include his companion of 23 years, Sevim Boussom of Elkhart; daughter Beth VerVelde of South Bend; two sons, Tyler R. VerVelde of Elkhart and Kurt W. VerVelde of Seattle, Wash.; sister Joyce Gorter of Sheboygan; and a granddaughter, Sasha Davis of South Bend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Gorter.
Rodney was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he received a degree in physical education. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57. He later worked in the RV industry as a salesman for many years prior to his retirement.
Rodney was a basketball player for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and later was the swim coach for the YMCA in Chicago.
Cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
