Rodney A. Atkinson, 60, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 6, 2026. He was born in Elkhart, IN on March 19, 1965, to the late Dorothy (Steffel) Atkinson and Frank Atkinson, who survives him.

Rodney is also survived by his siblings, Debra McBrier, Barbara Byler, Mike Atkinson, and Victor Atkinson; companion, Cindy Hubbard; 2 nieces; and one nephew.

Cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. A memorial service will take place at a later date with a private graveside service at Rice Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rodney’s memory to COPD Foundation, PO Box 160112 Miami, FL 33116-0112 or Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 Co Rd 19, Bristol, IN 46507.

Rodney was a fiercely independent and hardworking man who worked for Century Foam in Elkhart for several years. He graduated from Jimtown High School in 1984 and during those school years he enjoyed roller skating at Holiday Rolling Rink. Rodney was an outdoors man who loved fishing and camping where he could spend some much-needed alone time. He was a tinkerer and would often be found working on his car. Rodney was always the type of man that was willing to lend a hand if you asked him for help, especially if it was yardwork. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and many friends.
