Obituary

Rodney (Rod) Allen Pickrell, 56, died on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 after a courageous battle with ALS.

Rod was born in Elkhart on November 9, 1965 to Gene and Joan Marie (Dickerhoff) Pickrell. He married the love of his life, Lisa Arlene (Clay) Pickrell on August 26, 1995 at First Church of the Nazarene.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Joan.

Rod is survived by his wife, Lisa Pickrell; daughters, Arlene, Camille and Maicey, all of Elkhart; brother, Steve Pickrell of Elkhart; sisters, Jan (Rich) Eyster of Noblesville, IN and Karen (Scott) Strang of Columbus, IN; nieces and nephew, Allison Strang, Jonathan Eyster and Kate Eyster.

As he was growing up, Rod enjoyed playing baseball, riding 4 wheelers, collecting baseball cards and comic books.  After graduating from Jimtown High School in 1984, he began working at the family business, Pickrell's Flowerland in Osceola, IN.   After the closing of the family business, Rod had various jobs until he was hired by Eyevertise and worked from home for many years.  This allowed him to spend more time with his daughters and create many special memories with them.

Anyone who knew Rod understood that he had a few passions in his life:  God, his family and friends, the Cubs, Colts, Fighting Irish and Spiderman. He was very loyal to what he loved.  This is evidenced by the fact that he was a Cubs fan long before the "curse" was broken, and a Colts fan even during a dismal 1-15 season.

Rod attended Crossroads Community Church of the Nazarene in Goshen, Indiana for over 30 years (formerly known as First Church of the Nazarene, Elkhart).  Over the many years of being a part of this church family, he led worship in a vocal ensemble, was a member of the church board, led adult Bible studies, and coached/played softball.    For several years, Rod taught in the youth program at Crossroads.  He impacted many young lives by showing them the love of God and sharing his hidden talent of doing voices of Spongebob, Yoda, and Scooby Doo. (He often took requests.)

Rod touched the lives of countless people who had the privilege of knowing him.  He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. But those who knew him best celebrate that he is in Christ's presence with a new, unbroken body and is surely singing with the angels.
