ELKHART -- Robert W. "Bob" Peck, 88, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born July 10, 1923, in Elkhart to Raymond G. and Leota A. (Warren) Peck. On June 27, 1948, he married Edith A. (Sweeney) Peck in Rock Island, Ill., and she survives.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Nancy A. Peck of Elkhart; son Jeffrey (Nancy) Peck of Winona Lake; brothers John W. (Mary) Peck of Sacramento, Calif., and Howard (Alleyne) Peck of Wichita, Kan.; granddaughters Elisabeth (Andy) Rutten of South Bend and Emily (Jeff) Kish of Osceola; grandson David Peck and fiancée Rebecca Fair of Winona Lake; great-grandsons Joseph Rutten of South Bend and Luke and Jacob Kish, both of Osceola; and brother-in-law Robert Linneman.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, R. George Peck, and a sister, Sara Linneman.
Bob was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945 and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was later employed with Star Machine for 11 years and CTS for an additional five years. In 1988, Bob retired from NIBCO after 15 years of service as a tool and die designer.
He was a member of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as a trustee and deacon. Bob was a past member of the New Horizon Band in which he played saxophone.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at McCoy Memorial Baptist Church, 134 Saint Clair Ave., Elkhart, IN 46516. Pastor Ray Laborde will officiate. Interment will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery where military graveside honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy and DAV Chapter 19.
