Robert Paul Tompkins, 65, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at his home.

Robert was born on January 28, 1956 to C. Donald and Alvina (Brusick) Tompkins in Benton Harbor, MI. He was married to Marlene (Sprague) Tompkins on January 7, 1977. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Aldon and Clifford.

Robert is survived by his wife, Marlene; son, Philip Tompkins, both of Elkhart; brother, Thomas (Beth) Tompkins of Three Oaks, MI; sister, Donna Ames of Benton Harbor, MI and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Robert was most recently a machinist at Gunite Corp. in Elkhart. He and his wife were also co-owners of Colonial Florist as well as employees at H & J Florist in St. Joseph, MI. Robert was an avid collector of coins, stamps and memorabilia. He also enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Robert loved animals especially his dogs. He will be remembered as having a big heart and giving the shirt off his back for anyone.

Per the family's wishes, there will be a private graveside service for Robert at a later date. Billings Funeral Home 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart is assisting the family.Memorial Contributions may be directed to The Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 CR 19, Bristol, IN 46507.
