IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Dale
Tolliver, Jr.
July 20, 1970 – June 3, 2023
Mr. Robert Dale Tolliver, Jr., 52, of Elkhart, passed away at his home following an extended illness on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 1:52 am. He was born on July 20, 1970 to the late Robert Dale Tolliver, Sr. and Myra June Tolliver Winter.
Robert is survived by a step-son Gary Brown of Mishawaka; daughter Nichole (Alfredo) Torres and step-daughter Sasha, both of Indianapolis; brothers Michael (Dee) Tolliver and Bobby (Angela) Tolliver, both of Centralia, Illinois and Lonnie and Kevin Tolliver, both of Elkhart; sisters Debbie (Marlin Price), Roberta (Tony Caudell), Janice and Kimberly (Collen) Tolliver, all of Elkhart and Angela "Angie" (Paul) Schoenborn, also of Elkhart; a step-grandson Nicholas Brown and three grandchildren Annabelle Ramirez, Yasmin Torres and Alfredo Torres, Jr., and a host of loving extended family, good friends, neighbors, workmates, and his former significant other, Barbara Brayden and her kids Tiffany, Mark and William.
Robert's family is planning a simple gathering of friends and family to share stories and to celebrate Robert's life on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 2-4 pm at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Elkhart. There will be no formal service, just some visitation time to share stories and memories. Afterwards, Robert will be cremated in accordance with his wishes.
Robert had worked many of his younger years with the Kentucky State Department of Forestry as a Wildlands Firefighter. He later went into construction and after moving to the Michiana area, he worked in maintenance for local hotels and motels.
Robert was a natural jokester and loved to get everyone laughing. He also had a lot of empathy for folks and went out of his way to help out others whenever he could. He loved to be outside, and, of course, enjoyed fishing and camping. He also liked to tinker on anything mechanical, especially cars, spend time with his rottie/lab Queenie, who was the household hero and protector, and could hand-craft just about anything out of duct tape. If duct tape couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed.
Finally, Robert will be best remembered for his strong sense of independence, inner strength and self-reliance, all qualities that were celebrated by those who loved him.
Friends and family may leave memories, condolences and pictures on Robert's obit page on the Billings Funeral Home website. Memorials may be given in his name to the family. Thank you for your interest in his life story!
