He was born May 8, 1928, in Cassopolis to Robert and Esther (Beehler) Stone. He married Ethel (Randolph) Thompson on Jan. 12, 1962 ,in St. Joseph County.

She survives along with seven sons, Randy (Judi) Stone and Jon (Linda) Stone, both of Edwardsburg, Scott (Tammi) Stone of Union, Ronnie (Sue) Thompson of Windham, Ohio, Roger (Becky) Thompson of Topeka, and Kenneth Thompson and Denny (Cindy) Thompson, both of Elkhart; four daughters, Rhonda (Mike) Harmon of Cassopolis, Marcia (Terry) Sharp of Edwardsburg, Cheryl (Sam) Morgan of New Martinsville, W.Va., and Bobbie Jo Stone of Elkhart; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanne (Chuck) Click of South Bend and Phyllis Joan Mann of Elkhart; and a sister-in-law, Shirley E. Stone of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Jo; and two brothers, Richard and James Stone.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Gary Sheets will officiate and burial will be at Adamsville Cemetery.

Mr. Stone retired from Dexter Axle after 22 years. He then worked for IOI for 15 years.

He attended the Swamp School in Edwardsburg and Elkhart High School. He was a member of the Bristol Church of the Nazarene and Elkhart Moose Lodge.
