ELKHART — Robert Lee Spears, 72, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 13, 1940, the first of nine children to Peter and Worrie (Wood) Spears in Oneida, Ark.
On March 23, 1963, he married Barbara (Hale) Spears. She passed away Sep. 29, 2005.
Left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Patricia "Precious" Parker and Diane A. Spears, both of South Bend, and Robin Murphy and Jeanette Spears, both of Elkhart; three sisters, Rosie Crain, Vera McGinnis and Mary Spears; three brothers, Arthur, Walter and Harry Spears; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Eugene Spears and two grandchildren, Jacques Murphy and Chance Spears.
Robert was employed at Elkhart Foundry for several years prior to his retirement.
Known as "Uncle Bob" to many, Robert enjoyed dancing, listening to music, cooking, fishing, attending family outings and spending time with the love of his life, his grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place at Billings Funeral, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
