IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert G.
Snyder
March 14, 1943 – October 25, 2021
Mr. Robert G. "Bob" Snyder, 78, of Cassopolis, Michigan, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Medical Center in Mishawaka on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021 at 10:56 pm following an illness. Bob was born on March 14, 1943 in Elkhart to the late George and Frances (Grant) Snyder, and later married Dessie (Mills) on June 23, 1974 in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Also surviving Bob are his children Cary L. Snyder of Cassopolis, Sherry F, Snyder of Rolling Prairie, Irene D. Elliott of Elkhart and Velta R. (Charlie) Beeman of Elwood; his brother Frankie Snyder, who lives somewhere out west, and a multitude of grand and great-grandchildren, including grandson Carl (Amber) Elliott of Bristol. He is also survived by a loving host of extended family, friends and colleagues within the trailer industry. Besides his parents, Bob is preceded in death by a brother, Edward "Eddie" Snyder.
Bob was a well-sought-after self employed trailer frame builder here in the Michiana area. His reputation preceded him, as he prided himself on superior products built with knowledge and care. In fact, up until the week of his admission into the hospital, Robert had still been working and taking orders; choosing to remain within his field of steel manufacturing and assembly, just because everyone knew he did reliable and dependable work.
Much of his success was due to his practical and methodical approach to things, combined with his natural ability to work with his hands. Folks would always marvel at the fact that Bob could always measure accurately by eye and seem to be able to make something out of nothing. Additionally, whenever someone had an idea for something, they'd bring their thoughts to Bob and he's turn it into reality. When he wasn't welding trailer frames together, he enjoyed making three-wheeled motorcycle "trikes". However, Bob didn't settle for anything common; he'd rather combine two kinds of vehicles together creating unique and custom-built trike rods that he knew no one else would have. Among many, his favorite was the trike pictured, that had a "79 Corvette rear end and a V-8 diesel engine in it. He loved cruising around in it, if only just to enjoy the looks he'd get from people as he rode along on his adventures. His creations would always cause a lot of interest, conversation and rubber-necking!
It was a fact that Bob was no stranger to hard work and that he strived to maintain his good name and good business practices through honesty and keeping his word. He'd give you the shirt off his back if he saw you were in need, but he'd not mince his words if he had to speak his mind. He will be best remembered for his respect for others, appreciation of privacy and for his "old-school" way of thinking and doing things.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Elkhart. No immediate services have been planned, as he never wanted to make a "fuss" over himself.
Memorial donations may be given to the Robert G. Snyder memorial fund in care of his wife, Dessie. Friends and relatives are encouraged to read the entire obit and leave condolences, memories and/or pictures of Bob by clicking "Tribute Wall" on his obituary page on the funeral home's website and then following the prompts.
