ELKHART -- Robert Lewis Smith, 89, residing in Elkhart at Golden Living Center, died at 8:57 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Elkhart General Hospital.
Robert was born March 22, 1921, in South Bend to the late Charles L. and Alice (Clouse) Smith.
Robert is survived by his neighborhood friends and staff at Golden Living Center.
Robert formerly worked as a laborer in the area and at one time for the railroad. He served with the 418th training group at Lincoln Army Air Field in Lincoln, Neb., during World War II from July 22, 1942, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 3, 1943.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place, with placement of his cremains in the veterans tower at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
Veterans Funeral Care at Billings, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.
