He was born July 26, 1950, in South Bend, Ind., to Harold E. and Betty (Lutz) Nelson.

He is survived by one sister, Sherri L. (Gene) Chandler of Elkhart; two brothers, Jon A. (Dee) and David B. (Sherri) Nelson, both of Elkhart; and his mother, Betty Nelson-Wenger of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Paul Wenger; and one brother, James Nelson.

Friends may call one hour prior to the 2 p.m. Saturday memorial service at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. William Hemmig will officiate. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date in Vistula Cemetery. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nelson had been employed at Carruth Brothers Lumber Co. in New Orleans until becoming ill. He was formerly employed at Cobra Industries and United Tool & Stamping in the Elkhart area and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a 1969 graduate of Concord High School.

Mr. Nelson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He enjoyed watching baseball and anything to do with Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
