ELKHART — Robert M. "Mitch" Reed, 64, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Golden Living Center of Elkhart on Wednesday, July 6, at 2:30 am.
He was born Feb. 22, 1952 in Manchester, Tenn., to the late JoAnn (Smithson) Reed and Bobby F. Reed, who survives him in Osceola.
Also surviving are his spouse Patricia "Pat" Barrentine-Reed, at home; his son Eric (Deanna) Reed of Manchester; daughter Teresa (Stephanie) Reed of Christiana, Tenn.; stepson Jan Barrentine, Jr. of Elkhart; sister Angela Reed of Osceola and five grandchildren.
Besides his mother, Mitch was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart to celebrate Mitch's life on Friday, July 8, from 4-8 p.m. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will follow the visitation.
Mitch was a welder by trade and worked over 40 years building wreckers at Challenger Wrecking in Elkhart. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting antiques and Jack Daniels memorabilia. He was also an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed watching Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Mitch will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his outspoken personality and his jokingly defiant response of "Bite Me!" whenever anyone gave him a hard time.
