April 24, 1932 - May 13, 2012

ELKHART — Robert W. "Bob" Miller, 80, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Golden Living Center after a long bout with Parkinson's disease.

Bob was born April 24, 1932, in Elkhart to the late James Gilbert and Jennie (Fay) Miller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James "Deke" and Russel Miller and sisters Josephine Vantine, Pauline Miller, Ethel DeFord, June Williams, Shirley Barnes and Doris Smole.

He married Junelle P. Hager on June 17, 1954, in Colorado.

She survives, as well as his daughters, Joni (Patrick) Vilyus of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Vickie Hall of Union, Mich., and Julie (Ernie) Radtke of Elkhart; and a son, David Miller of Elkhart. Surviving, as well, are his six grandchildren, Joseph, Kira, Jacklyn, Charles, Jake and Brooke; and a sister, Carol Rouch.

Bob was the owner/operator of Professional Carpet Cleaning for many years and also worked for Moore's Cleaners. He was a member of Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren, DAV Chapter 19 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War, where he received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren, 24955 C.R. 24, Elkhart. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Dan Brenneman and Pastor Frank Ramirez officiating. Folding and presentation of the flag with the playing of taps by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard will conclude the evening.

If friends so desire, memorials may be given to the church. At his request, cremation has taken place with burial at a later date in Shavehead Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home, where condolences may be sent to the family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
