ELKHART -- Robert Lee McDonald, 66, of Elkhart died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 5, 2009) in Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Jan. 23, 1943, in Goshen to Benjamin and Vada (Davis) McDonald. On Oct. 13, 1990, he married Phyllis J. Rice in Goshen. She preceded him in death.

Mr. McDonald is survived by one sister, Deloris (J.R.) Bedel of Goshen. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine McDonald, and one brother, William.

Mr. McDonald had worked at Borden's Trash Service, Elkhart, for over 15 years, but retired from KIK Industries, Elkhart. He worked at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds during the summer. He was a former member of the Goshen Salvation Army who, along with his late wife, was a regular bell ringer at Christmastime. He enjoyed watching Westerns on TV and erecting huge Halloween and Christmas yard displays with his brother-in-law.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and burial will be at a later date. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting with arrangements.
