ELKHART — Robert Henry "Bob" Purdie, 81, residing in Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital, following an extended illness.
Bob was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Evansville to the late Armsted and Helen (Collis) Purdie. He married Margaret F. Lewis on May 6, 1950, in Evansville.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Margaret F. Purdie; sons Greg Purdie and wife Lori, and Tim Purdie and wife Lona; daughters Vicki Ort and husband Donald, and Lavon Purdie. Ten grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and brothers Allen and Jerry Purdie survive as well.
Bob worked in sales at Hehr Window Company and retired from Mor/ryde. He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a former member of the Baugo Lions Club and a coach at Baugo Little League. Bob graduated from Evansville Reitz Memorial High School and was active in Turner's Athletic Club. He enjoyed going on long drives and spending time with his family.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Friends may also call for a half hour prior to the 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, Requiem Mass at St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 W. Lexington Ave., Elkhart. Father Daniel Repp will officiate. Bob's wishes of cremation will be honored. Placement in the St. John's Church Columbarium will be at a future date.
