ELKHART: Robert Evans, 96, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at Eastlake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Robert was born on June 25, 1923 in Swoyerville, Pennsylvania.

Bill is survived by his son William E. "Bill" Evans of Mesa, Ariz.; 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and his brothers Louis and Edward Evans.

He was preceded in death by a son Robert Evans and daughter Rita Silbaugh; and 2 brothers Joe Evans and Richard "Dick" Evans.

Robert graduate from high school and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Robert worked as an engraver and finisher in the band instrument industry for many years.  He worked at one time for Artley Flutes, Buescher Band Instruments Co., Blessings and Gemeinhardt. Robert also did hand engraving out of his home and also for sporting goods stores and trophy shops. Robert was an avid golfer, and was on the PGA Tour in 1953 to 1955, worked as a club pro at various courses and won the Elkhart City Golf Tournament several times.

Per his wishes, cremation was chosen under the care of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. Burial will be at a later date at National Memorial Cemetery in Arizona.
