ELKHART -- Robert Orrin "Bob" Anderson, 88, of Elkhart, died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1, 2009) in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to Orrin H. and Beulah (Dale) Anderson. On July 6, 1946, he married Dora B. Gilson in South Bend.
She survives along with three sons, Rodger D. (Connie) Anderson of Elkhart, R. Mike Anderson of Bradenton, Fla., and Ronald W. (Robin) Anderson of Pearland, Texas; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Anderson worked throughout the U.S. as a road and utility construction supervisor. He retired in the mid-1980s from Warren Bros. Construction (now Atlantic Richfield Co.) in Houston. He loved hunting, fishing and cooking his special Texas-style barbecue and chili. He enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Anderson was a U.S. Army, Army Air Corps and Air Force veteran who served in World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific where he served as an aircraft armorer and gunner on B-24s and B-29s.
There will be no funeral service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. A graveside military service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Coloma City (Mich.) Cemetery on West Center Street. Coloma American Legion Post 362 will render honors.
