ELKHART - Rita Sue Lightner, 63, entered the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017. She was born April 11, 1954, in Elkhart to Robert and Mary Warren, who preceded her in death. Grieving her memory are her daughter, Melisa Lightner of Mishawaka; nine siblings: Doris (Joseph) Howard of Elkhart, Robert (Pam) Warren of Uniontown, Ohio, William Warren of Elkhart, Thomas (Mary) Warren of South Bend, Timothy (Marilyn Robb) Warren of Phoenix, Ariz., Chris Warren of Elkhart, Annette Chiddister of Edwardsburg, Mich., Kathleen (Kevin) Brunton of Edwardsburg, Mich., and Teresa Warren of Mishawaka; a "cuz-sis," Dar Losee of Elkhart, and many adored nieces and nephews.

At the time of her unexpected passing, Rita was working as a customer service representative at Dometic Corp. in Elkhart. She also, for many years, worked weekends at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart, where she assisted behind the scenes with Masses and other responsibilities. It was not just a job for her, though. Rita loved being in that holy space and ministering in her way to the parishioners. She had a big heart and, always, a ready smile.

Rita was a graduate of Elkhart High School. Throughout her life, she excelled at arts and crafts. Her particular specialties were crocheting and quilting. She made many treasured pieces for family and friends. She also was a superb cook and delighted in making her special annual Halloween meal for her family.

Please join with Rita's family from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main, Elkhart. Rev. Matthew Coonan will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart IN 46516.
