Obituary

ELKHART — Rick D. Garrett, 67, of Elkhart, passed away at 9:48 a.m. Sunday, July 5, in his home following an apparent heart attack.

He was born Jan. 2, 1948, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to the late Henry J. and Margaret R. (Krumrie) Garrett.

He married the love of his life, Jacque L. Cooper, on March 27, 1971, in Elkhart. She survives at home.

Also surviving are his son, Rickey A. Garrett of Elkhart; his brother, Gary (Betty) Garrett of Ocala, Fla.; father-in-law Lester Cooper of Elkhart; sisters-in-law Cheri (Jim) Chandler of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Becky (Andy) Repaich of Elkhart; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Rick's wishes, cremation is to take place. His remains will be entombed at a later date in the veteran's section of Prairie Street Cemetery, with full military honors.

Rick was a 1966 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was an accomplished self-employed auto body and paint technician for over 42 years. His ultimate love was in auto restoration, specializing in vintage Corvettes and VWs. When not working on cars, he enjoyed spending time with his three beloved cats, Snowman, Amber and Chase.

Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
