IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard H.
Williams
May 23, 1946 – October 18, 2021
Richard Houston Williams, 75, of Goshen, IN passed away Monday October 18, 2021 at the Center for Hospice Care, Raclin House in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Richard was born May 23, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Alma Lee (Markham) and John Wiley Williams Sr. both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his sister Beverly Ann Tengelitsch.
He is survived by brothers John Wiley Williams Jr, James Charles (Vickie) Williams Sr. and sister Barbara Lee Chenoweth; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, his guardian Jodi Taylor, adopted family and many friends at ADEC.
Richard was employed at ADEC in Bristol until more recently, when he was involved in their day services. Richard was proud of the many awards he earned while participating in Special Olympics.
At one time he resided at the Ft. Wayne Developmental Center, it was there where he met his close friend Robert Jean, who also used a wheelchair. He and Robert understood each other and often finished each other's sentences (Robert being the interpreter for Richard). Both Richard and Robert moved to an ADEC group home in Goshen, sharing their lives until Robert passed away about 10 years ago.
He liked his Notre Dame blanket, socks, and sweatshirts. He also painted pottery, loved old westerns, vintage police shows, gospel music and wrestling. He had statues of The Hulk and The Rock in his room, along with many family pictures, DVDs, and CD's. He had many friends both at ADEC and the Ashley Court Group Home.
Richard was known for his wry smile and sense of humor. Despite limited dexterity in his fingers, he was a master of the remote control. He often set his support staff up for his trickery with the TV when he was able to do it himself. He enjoyed playing 21 questions with his staff, just to have the pleasure of their interactions with him. He loved the sunshine, watching nature, and seeing the change of seasons, but was never a fan of the cold.
He loved Johnny Cash, and Elvis, and he had a crush on Hillary Clinton, stating she was "hot". Even though Richard had very limited ability to articulate his words, he understood everything you said to him and communicated amazingly well with his eyebrows, a head nod, his smile, and a finger point.
His faith and love of God was absolute and pure. He was indeed a special soul and will be greatly loved and missed by many!
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11:00 am on Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. The funeral procession will then leave for the graveside service at Little Pine Cemetery, Goshen, Pastor Renee Knaggy with the
Center for Hospice Care will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to please consider memorials in Richard's name to ADEC, 19670 State Road 120, Bristol, IN 46507.
