EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — Richard D. Swartz, 40, of Edwardsburg, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Jan, 3, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 30, 1971, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Bernard and Erma J. (Oblinger) Swartz. On Sept. 11, 1993, he married Loraine J. (Stuglik) Swartz in Edwardsburg. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Derik Stuglik and Zackari Swartz, both of Edwardsburg; two sisters, Kamron (Travis) Mealer of Obion, Tenn., and Mary (Jim) Klosinski of Mishawaka; brother Shawn (Kim) Swartz of Goshen, Ind.; niece MaKenna Mealer; and four nephews, Ryan Swartz, Nathaniel Brooks, Justin Hershberger and Austin Klosinski.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Todd Swartz, and a grandson, Adam Stuglik.
Richard was employed as a welder with Universal Trailer Cargo Group in Elkhart. He enjoyed spending time bowling, playing softball, racing stock cars and building demolition derby cars.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Sharp's Lounge, 15513 U.S. 12, Union, Mich.
