ELKHART — Richard Henry Jabs, 82, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, at his residence.
He was born July 14, 1934, in Passaic, N.J., the son of the late Henry Jabs and Martha (Trichle) Jabs.
Survivors include three sons, Tim (Kathy) Jabs and Russell Jabs, both of Elkhart; and Chris Jabs of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Susan (Gary) McKee of Arlington Heights, Ill.; Lori (Bryan) Dygert of Bristol and Amy (Tate) Stuntz of Noblesville. Also surviving is Richard's brother Edward Jabs of New Jersey. There are 11 grandchildren left to cherish his memory, Courtney Lyons-Crawford, Sarah, Nick and Megan McKee, Christian and Calvin Jabs, Hannah, Bradley and Haley Dygert, and Emily and Julia Stuntz and one great-grandchild, Jaymeson Crawford.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Sherri Jabs and his former spouse, Barbara Jabs.
Having graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, Richard was an industrial engineer most of his life.
He had a variety of hobbies. He was a master gardener, Boy Scout troop leader and he also enjoyed hunting and camping.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 10 a.m. celebration of life service Saturday, Oct. 15 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
Pastor Dan Forehand of Grace Lutheran Church will officiate.
