Richard G. Irons, 80, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Valley View Healthcare Center, Elkhart. Richard was born at the family home in Osceola, Indiana, to the late Harry and Mary Ann (Beadle) Irons. In addition to his parents, two sons, Kenny Irons in 1988 and Richard Irons in 1993, and his brothers, Jerry and Charles Irons, and brother-in-law, Dennis Reafsnyder, and sister-in-law, Veida Irons, preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (Paul) Brown, Sherri Irons, both of Virginia; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Irons, Charles (Linda) Irons, both of Elkhart; and two sisters, Shirley Reafsnyder, Goshen, and Roanna "Fay" (Gary) Long of Long Palm Bay, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews survive as well.
Richard had formerly lived in Warsaw for about 20 years and worked at Creighton Brothers (poultry/egg farm) in Warsaw before moving to Elkhart. Richard lived at Riverside Village for about 10 years, where he helped serve lunches in the cafeteria. He was always ready to sit and talk to you and was liked by most. Richard could be a challenge to his sister and others, but he always remembered to say thank you and was loved by all. If you asked him how he was, he always said he was "Lazy, Rotten and Old!". Richard loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to play games, cards, and Bingo, which were his favorite. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and looking for mushrooms. He was a member of First Church of God and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Per his wishes, cremation was chosen. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date by his family.
Arrangements are under the care of Billings Funeral Home.
