UNION, Mich. — Richard L. Eppert Sr., 59, of Union, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 10 of natural causes while visiting his daughter in Santa Maria, Calif.
He was born in South Bend, Ind., June 5, 1955, to the late Robert F. "Bunk" and Norma (Bauman) Eppert.
He worked as a tile setter and carpet layer in Indiana and California, as well as worked for Rambler and Skyline Industries in Elkhart before beginning a 30-year career as a semi driver.
He is survived by his children Richard Eppert Jr. of Cassopolis and Jessica Marie Eppert of Santa Maria; sisters Nancy Miller of Bristol, Ind., Roseanne (Michael) Wiedeman of New Jersey and Jacqueline (Charles) Hipsak of Las Vegas; brother Robert Eppert of Bristol; stepmother Debbie Eppert of Plymouth, Ind.; his former spouse of 20 years and mother to the children, Penny Eppert of Santa Maria; and his loving companion of 10 years, Darlene White, who survives at home. A granddaughter, Kalaysia Lynn Eppert of Kalamazoo, and a host of nieces and nephews survive as well.
Richard was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, former Osolo Fire Chief Jerrold B. Miller.
A celebration of Richard's life will take place at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart on Friday, Sept. 19, with a visitation beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation will follow the services and burial will take place at a later date.
