ELKHART — Richard A. "Shimmy" Childress Sr., 54, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, April 7, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 21, 1960, in Decatur, Ill., to Albert Risbey and Trilvey E. Childress.
He is survived by his dearly beloved wife, Andrea (Laughlin) Childress, to whom he was married on June 16, 1990.
Other survivors include four sons, Richard A. Jr. (Tina) Childress of Westville, Kenneth L. (Nyesha) Childress of Elkhart, Christopher L. Childress of Elkhart and Anthony Ratliff of Louisiana; two daughters, Crystal (Martin) Lopez of Elkhart and Tiffany (Juan) Cedeno of Goshen; father Albert Risby of Decatur; and several brothers, sisters and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was later employed at Native Hardwoods Inc., as a receiver operator, for several years.
The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Dan Cosentino of Grace Community Church in Goshen will officiate. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery.
