He was born Nov. 13, 1944, in Elkhart to Ray M. Sr. and Virginia (Beam) Dick. He married Rebecca "Becky" Blaisdell on May 3, 1971, in Elkhart.
She survives along with two sons, Leroy E. (Sarah) Dick and Neal A. (Shannon) Dick, both of Elkhart; two daughters, Melissa A. (Reymond) Boros of Elkhart and Phyllis K. Palmour of Burnet, Texas; six grandchildren; one brother, Ronald (Sharon) Dick of Edwardsburg, Mich.; and one sister, Virginia "Taffy" Welch of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by one brother, LeRoy "Buzzy" Dick, and four sisters, Barbara "Dolly" Neel, Olive "Chubby" Dick, Margillith Sawyer and Suzie Dick.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to Saturday's 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home. Capt. Steve Woodard, chaplain of the Elkhart Salvation Army, will officiate. Cremation will follow with private burial in Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date. The Elkhart DAV and U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard will render military honors at the funeral home Saturday.
Mr. Dick was a career truck driver whose 30 years included both local and over-the-road deliveries for local and national companies. He was an avid mechanic who could always be found in his backyard workshop. He enjoyed watching westerns on TV, spending time on his computer and camping. He bowled with his wife in mixed leagues at Country Club Lanes. He was a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Dick was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who served with the 34th Signal Battalion as a mechanic/radio operator.
