IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ralph ""The
Lawnmower Man"" White
August 9, 1943 – August 13, 2021
Mr. Ralph "Lawnmower Man" White, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at his northside home on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 3:43 am. He was born on August 9, 1943 in Nicholas County, Kentucky to the late Clarence and Ruth (Manley) White. On September 3, 1964, he married Judy Ann Hawkins in Elkhart. She passed away in 2015.
Surviving Ralph are his children Ralph, Jr. of South Bend and Dolly (Shannon) Fales of Elkhart; brother Fred White of Maysville, Kentucky; his grandchildren Sarah and Brian Fales and his former sister-in-law, Cathy Parot. He is also survived by a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and good friends, as well as his late wife's peek-a-poo, Boomer. His son, Timothy Ray White, brothers David and James White, and his sisters Elizabeth Hatton, Dorothy Craycraft and Rhonda Moreira all precede Ralph in death, as do his step-mother Marjorie White and his step-father Frank Warner.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart is hosting Ralph's homegoing service beginning with an evening visitation on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 from 5-7 pm. On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am, with visitation beginning that day at 10 am. Family friend Elder Deed Pendell will officiate the services and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart
Ralph worked for Aggregate Concrete Industries (also known as Fidler, Ozinga) in Elkhart as a concrete truck driver for 31 years but loved to stay busy even in his retirement. He was a wonder with fixing things and working with his hands, and before long he became well known on Elkhart's north side as the "Lawnmower Man", because he was well-known by just about everyone as the guy who you'd take your broken down lawnmower to to get fixed.
Friendly and outgoing, helping others was definitely in Ralph's blood, as he always enjoyed lending a hand or giving "sage" advice to anyone who would listen. As a matter of fact, the local Osolo Township Fire Department kept Ralph on "speed-dial" as he was their 24-hour go-to guy in case of equipment malfunctions. He was a huge NASCAR fan and also enjoyed rooting for his Minnesota Vikings or New England Patriots.
Finally, it should be celebrated that Ralph loved to spend time with and spoil his grandchildren. Any day that involved a visit from Sarah or Brian generally made Ralph smile, and Ralph smiled ALOT!!! He also enjoyed bowling, visiting the local casinos and going garage sale-ing.
Memorial donations may be given to the charity of one's choice. Friends and relatives are encouraged to leave condolences and memories of Ralph by clicking "Tribute Wall" on his obituary page.
