He was born June 19, 1943, in Mishawaka to Milo and Dorothy Smith. He married Marlene Miller.

She survives along with three sons, Jeff (Malinda) Smith of Meridian, Miss., and Mike (Judy) and David (Laurie) Miller, both of Elkhart; one daughter, Karen (Charlie) Demler of Carmel; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

His parents preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the 6 p.m. Sunday funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Cremation will follow the service.

Mr. Smith had been a longtime employee of Wilt's grocery store at Easy Shopping Place and was employed at Insulation Components Inc. in Mishawaka until his sudden illness. He was a graduate of Penn High School and enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing and the Chicago Bears. Most of all, he enjoyed just being a father and grandpa.
